In the bare boards part of BB&S, Printed Circuit Boards -PCBs- are manufactured. PCBs, which are nowadays present in virtually all electronic products, may vary in material, form, type (rigid, flexible, monolayer, multilayer) and function (bearing components, connecting components, serving individual HF functions). Dependent on the application, different requirements need to be met. Examples are a board for a radar receiver or a back panel for electronic cabinet. In general, more and more components need to be squeezed on to an ever smaller surface, and this usually means that the wiring can no longer be accommodated on a single layer, but has to be distributed over several layers, with the necessary electrical interconnections plated through, resulting in what is known in the trade as a multilayer, a board based on multilayer technique.
