Military Message Handling System - MMHS

On 21 August 2003, Thales Communications B.V. (TCNL) in Huizen signed a contract with the Royal Netherlands Navy for the delivery of a Military Message Handling System to be deployed in the various military services and that is to be operational in October 2004.

In this program, with a size of 6.5 million euro, TCNL is the main contractor. The Message Handling System selected is "XOmail", delivered by the Norwegian Thales Communications AS. The rollout of the system (that will consist chiefly of Commercial Off-The-Shelf equipment) will be performed by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. The system will replace various obsolete text-based systems that are presently in use by the defense organization.

XOmail is an application that offers a "Windows®-standard" user interface and messaging capabilities tailored for military requirements. The XOmail system complies with the NATO standard STANAG 4406, and will make use of the existing network infrastructure. Interfaces are available for the Tactical Messaging System (TMS) of TITAAN, the Tactical Communications Network that is operational in the Army and Air Force and the Message Handling System (MHS) on board of vessels of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The contract was signed on behalf of the Royal Netherlands Navy by the Director Materiel, Rear Admiral P.M. van der Struis and by Ir. G.J. Edelijn, Managing Director of Thales Communications in The Netherlands.
