A new success for SMARTSWITCH, this time in Italy

Thanks to  a multidomestic approach to the Italian railways market, THALES Land & Joint Systems Division in the Netherlands and THALES Land & Joint Systems Division in Italy were awarded  a contract of 190 KEuro by SEPSA , an Agency of the City of Naples to supply SMARTSWITCH for the metro lines of Cumana and C.Flegrea.

The customer ordered a first lot of equipment to perform tests on the field, connecting 10 stations through SMARTSWITCH. Later on, the network will be completed, covering about 40 stations and supporting several services such as TVCC, WAN, public address, telephone systems.

This order represents a first reference in Italy and it forms the basis for further successes.

SMARTSWITCH is a civilian product derived from SOTASM2. It is an ATM switch with access capabilities, already in service in the Dutch Railways and in Germany for the metro lines of Berlin and Hamburg (S-Bahn).

250th SMARTSWITCH delivered to the Dutch Railways

In January the 18th, Thales Land & Joint Systems in the Netherlands delivered its 250th SMARTSWITCH to ProRail, the Dutch Railways network provider.

As of 2000, Thales has delivered 250 smartSwitches to provide network connectivity for various railway applications like video surveillance, track control, passenger information service, PA, telephony and several others.

This SMARTSWITCH network, which is continuously expanding in dimension as in applications, enables ProRail to cost-effectively support the Dutch Railways (NS) communication needs.
