BTC NL Opening

On September 27, the Deputy Director for Requirements of the Defence Staff in the Netherlands, Commodore M. Borsboom, officially opened the Thales Battlespace Transformation Centre (BTC) in the Netherlands. The Commodore started a movie showing the BTC’s location in the Netherlands which was followed by a warm welcoming message from the BTC sites in the UK, France, Germany and Australia.

After the opening ceremony, a short demonstration was given of the capabilities of the BTC in Huizen and Hengelo. Earlier that day, there was a demonstration of the capabilities of the BTC in Germany which has moved to Huizen specially for this event.

The new Transformation & Integration Centre – TIC of the Land & Joint Systems Division in the Netherlands together with the TIC in Hengelo join the Thales collaborative centers of expertise in Germany, France, UK, Greece, Singapore and Australia to identify and evaluate transformation options in order to provide a smooth and affordable transition from legacy to Network Enabled Capabilities.

By combining operational analysis, system engineering and architectures with extensive Battlelab facilities, all parties to trans- formation are working together in a common Concept, Development & Experimentation environment analyzing and evaluating the impact of technology insertion on the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures.

Previous to the opening ceremony, Thales Huizen hosted a symposium on Network Enabled Capabilities – ‘From Policy towards Implementation’, organized by the NIID, the Netherlands Institute for Cooperation between Defense and Industry, and KIVI, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Engineers. Presentations were given by Commodore M. Borsboom (Defense), H. Jacobs (Defense), W. van der Wiel (TNO), L. Bubbers (Reinforce) and R. ten Eikelder (Thales NL) on how Concept Development & Experimentation in the BTC can be used to turn Network Enabled Capabilities concepts into Mission Capable Packages.
