Access Services

SmartSwitch provides the access for all kind of analogue systems, e.g. phone, intercom, modem and public address, and digital systems, e.g. camera control (RS-232/RS-485) and pc-based control systems (Ethernet).

Speciality: video

A special feature of SmartSwitch video access is the use of Wavelet video compression technique, enabling a real-time (<100ms end-to-end delay) connection with a very high quality combined with low bandwidth, especially compared to MPEG.

Video images compressed to 4Mbps can be appreciated very well, whilst compression to only 8Mbps delivers quality video images.

The use of cost-effective Wavelet compression technology makes compression delay independent of the chosen compression factor (on the fly adjustable).

The real-time point-point-delay is less then 100ms.

Compared to the transport of uncompressed video Wavelet compression gives an equivalent user satisfaction by using only fragments of the uncompressed bandwidth.

Connection Services

Connections can be fixed or set-up on-the-fly and offer a guaranteed quality for video, audio, data and telephony services.

For instance, the combination of access and connection services enables a SmartSwitch network to act as a giant video-matrix, thus reducing the necessity of external video switching equipment.

QoS

Due to the used ATM technology, SmartSwitch networks offer a guaranteed Quality of Service for all video, audio, data and telephony services.
