Thales Nederland celebrates its 80th anniversary. In 1922 the company was originally established in Hengelo, the Netherlands.
The main reason for founding the company was the Royal Netherlands Navy's requirement for fire control equipment for two vessels that were built at that time. It marked the beginning of a new Dutch industry, geared to the development and manufacturing of mechanical fire control. At that time the staff amounted to 70. Over the years the company grew steadily and changed owners several times, but the one constant remained: high quality products. Designed and manufactured by dedicated, highly trained and specialized personnel for many customers all over the world. Over the years the company expanded enormously and remained in the forefront of developments in the areas of radar and fire control. Thales Naval Nederland is now a global supplier of a wide range of equipment for above-water warfare, such as surveillance, weapon control, anti-air warfare, and combat management systems, and provides life cycle support services.
Now in 2002, Thales Nederland is part of the international Thales group as one of the centres of excellence in the naval field.
On 7 June 2002, the company celebrates the anniversary by organising a gathering for all staff. Mr. Denis Ranque, President of Thales, joins the celebrations. A group of international journalists are also present to have discussions with Mr. Ranque and Mr. Arno Peels, CEO of Thales Nederland, about the position Thales in Holland and worldwide. |
