Thales Nederland has become the main sponsor of the most prestigious athletics games in the Netherlands, which are held every year during the month of June in Hengelo, location of Thales Nederland's headquarters. These games, which have Grand Prix 1 status, named after the famous Dutch athlete Fanny Blankers-Koen  (FBK) and renowned for het four gold medals at the Olympics in London in 1948, have now been renamed Thales FBK Games.

On 25 November 2002 Thales Nederland's managing director Arno Peels and the chairman of the FBK games, Mr. Leo van den Akker, signed a three-year contract to establish Thales Nederland as the main sponsor of this event. The new name and logo were revealed during the press conference that was held in the presence of athletes, the town mayor and council, the Royal Netherlands Athletics Union, national TV, press, etc.
