On Thursday 30 October Thales Optronics B.V. completed its series contract for the delivery of 803 LION uncooled hand held thermal imagers to the Royal Netherlands Army.  The customer was represented by its Quality Assurance Representative, Mr. W.J. Rog. General Manager Mr. G.J.B. Vinke handed over the white-ribboned LION camera. TOBV personnel joined in this important milestone ceremony.
The LION thermal imager is a state-of-the-art thermal binocular making use of European uncooled detector technology. The absence of noise, its ruggedness, and proven reliability (low cost of ownership) are some of the important attributes which have attracted a wide range of NATO and non-NATO-customers.
At present LION has served its customers in many missions around the world giving the user fast situational awareness in close combat or during reconnaissance missions.
Series production continues since also new European countries intensifying their border control have ordered LION. With LION Thales Optronics B.V. is the European market leader in the military uncooled thermal imager market.
