On 28 January, Thales Naval GmbH opened a new office in the town of Rostock. Doing so, Thales has followed the defence systems and logistics departments of the German Navy that moved from Wilhelmshaven to Rostock in 2002. According to Peter Obermark, deputy manager, the contact with the German Navy deteriorated since they moved; a local point of contact proved to be indispensable.
The new office will function also as the basis for future projects. For the time being, the location operates with a minimum staff, but Eugen Klotz, Director of Thales Naval GmbH, expects the site to grow as business with the German Navy increases.
Thales Naval GmbH employs about 360 staff members spread over its locations in Wilhelmshaven, Kiel, Hamburg and Rostock.
