The Korean Ministry of National Defence (MND) has recognised and rewarded joint venture Samsung Thales for the outstanding execution of two development programmes. This is part of the MND's campaign to applaud companies whom they judge to have made excellent contributions, throughout 2003, to technological development and defence equipment acquisitions. The award thus acknowledges Samsung Thales' performance in the development of two projects: a Trunk Distribution Unit for information transmitters and the Board Test System integrated depot maintenance tool for controlling and detecting army weapon systems. Welcoming the decision, Samsung Thales reiterated its R&D efforts to strengthen Korea's military capability.
The two programmes:
The Trunk Distribution Unit switches, multiplies and transmits high rate packet data, providing increased access to data and facilitating tactical C4I interface.
The integrated depot maintenance tool leverages the ability to manage and diagnose today's weapons systems. It paves the way for new methods of depot maintenance for future weapons systems, not only in communications and electronics, but also extensively in fire control system and guided weapons.
