Recently,  the Royal Danish Navy and Thales Nederland signed a maintenance contract for the SMART-S Mk2 radar systems that Naval Materiel Command purchased in December 2003 for installation on the new Flexible Support Ships. The maintenance contract, Smart Sparing Contract, will remain in force for 10 years. It consists of an innovative approach combining consultancy, delivery and services.

According to Arno Peels, Thales Nederland CEO, ", Thales' excellent maintenance proposal was one of the reasons the Royal Danish Navy selected the SMART-S Mk2 radars. This maintenance contract fits in with the trend that armed forces look more and more to industrial partners for taking over a part of their activities."
