The first SMART-S Mk2 Antenna Array Pack (AAP) has recently been tested in its entirety in the Compact Antenna Test Range in Hengelo: a genuine milestone in the development of this antenna. The AAP consists of sixteen so-called line transmitters. A line transmitter is a stripline with a series of solid copper transmitters. In a period of three days. the antenna patterns of the complete set were tested by means of an auxiliary RF distributor. Special attention was paid to antenna amplification and required beam width. The latest test results prove that the system fully complies with the client's specifications.

At present, the antenna is built into the hull and the radome and the integration phase is about to begin. A series of integration tests forms a part of this phase which is concluded by the so-called alpha test. This is the ultimate test in which the designer team tests the complete system.

This first SMART-S Mk2 AAP will be built in the very first SMART-S Mk2 radar that will next year be delivered to the Royal Danish Navy: the launching customer for this new radar.
