The International Athletics Federation (IAAF) has awarded the Thales FBK-Games the Grand Prix status. This means that this Netherlands athletics finds, as of 2006, is ranked as the highest but one league of athletics event organizers. Fedde Zwanenburg, manager of the Thales FBK-Games was satisfied with the decision. "Naturally, one aims for the highest, but we are quite pleased with this result. Until now we were in the third category and this proves that we are on the right track. We climb one step and are in a position to invite again more top athletes than before." For 2006, the IAAF has classified 22 events in two levels: the Super Grand Prix and the Grand Prix. The most important difference between the two is the prize money that amounts to 500.000 dollar for a Super Grand Prix event and 250.000 dollar for a Grand Prix. The next edition of the Thales FBK-Games will be held on Sunday 28 May, 2006.
