For highly complex, electronic defence systems there is a need for Logistic Support analysis, in order to be capable to keep the Life Cycle Costs (LCC) as low as possible. This is achieved by influencing the system design from a logistics point of view and concurrent gathering of data for the logistic data base.
The LSA is made according to the Logistic Support Analysis Plan (LSAP), which is based on selected tasks of an internationally recognised military standard the MIL-STD-1388-1A.
The output of an LSA are:
- System breakdown, from logistics point of view
- Functional breakdown, with all its diagnoses and test methods
- Preventive maintenance task lists, including their frequency, required time and skills
- Maintenance task lists, with their required support items (spares/consumables)
- Subsystem Operational/Support functional task list
- Training requirements list
- Critical/Non-critical items list, together with spare parts recommendation.
- Tools and test equipment recommendation lists
- Repair policy list for each replaceable item.
